
Starting the Journey
At the beginning of this module, my understanding of sports marketing and media was relatively basic. I viewed sport primarily as entertainment and saw marketing as simply promoting teams, events, or athletes. However, throughout this module, my perspective has significantly changed. I have developed a deeper understanding of how sport operates within a complex system influenced by media, culture, and global audiences.
This blog reflects on my learning experience, focusing on how my understanding of sports marketing has evolved, the key concepts I have developed, and how these insights can be applied in the future.
Understanding the Role of Media in Sport
One of the most important things I have learned is how central media is to the sports industry. Before this module, I underestimated how much media shapes the way sport is experienced. Through studying topics such as social media, fan engagement, and digital platforms, I now understand that media is not just a communication tool but a key driver of value in sport.
For example, exploring how social media enhances fan engagement helped me realise that fans are no longer passive viewers. They actively participate, interact, and contribute to the sports experience. This idea challenged my previous assumptions and highlighted how sport has become more interactive and community-driven.

Developing Academic and Practical Skills
In addition to gaining knowledge, this module has helped me develop several important skills. Writing these blogs improved my ability to communicate ideas clearly and structure arguments effectively. I also developed my research skills by finding and analysing academic sources to support my points.
Using WordPress to create a blog was a new experience for me, and although it was initially challenging, it allowed me to develop digital and creative skills. Designing the website required me to think about layout, aesthetics, and user experience, which are all important aspects of modern marketing.
Overall, this module has helped me become more confident in combining academic knowledge with practical application.
Challenges and Growth
One of the main challenges I faced during this module was balancing academic writing with a blog-style tone. Initially, I found it difficult to make my work both analytical and engaging. However, over time, I learned how to present ideas in a way that is both informative and accessible.
